meeting new friends thru livejournal

LJ is an awesome model: You don't (generally) need any permissions or acceptances to glide from one person to a cool friend of theirs, to their groups, etc. Unlike any in-person networking, there is very minimal transaction cost to get out to a far branch, and once you're there you can dig right in.

It's a great place to start, although unlike with live contact, your direction of depth is chosen for you and relatively narrow: For example, no observing things such as seating patterns or gestures, although in certain aspects, you may get to hear more of the goings-on in their heads than you likely otherwise would, particularly from introverts.
