Video counting: basketball passes
Participatory experiment!

I counted 14 relevant passes. You?

(Be sure to watch the video -- trying the experiment -- before reading comments here or elsewhere.)

I didn't see the gorilla suit, and it wasn't even close. As the video started, I quickly proved to myself which people (wearing white) to watch & I kept my attention on them & on any extra white that might have suddenly magically appeared.

Had I been counting blackshirted passes, I bet I would have seen the gorilla suit.

The experiment was clearly designed for shock value in a few unfair ways: 1) They call it a GORILLA in the press releases, but it's really someone small enough the same size & shape as the small humans even with the gorilla suit, 2) they call it a gorilla, but it walks slowly & deliberately about like the humans (moreso, really), 3) again, they ask us to ignore black clothing & to carefully follow white.

I did have some sense of extra people or strange activity or something extra going no in the blackshirts, but I ignored it. I'm actually proud that I did!

I counted 15, and I saw the gorilla. It was hard to keep count while laughing, though... :)

Neat!

I'm surprised but not shocked that I missed one, assuming I did. A very unusual task!

I counted 14, saw the gorilla, and had a hard time not laughing.

I missed it, too. If the gorilla had been a different color or a different shape it would have been easy.

Obviously the act of tracking the ball requires more attention for some people.

I'm curious if they take visual impairments into account here, or if people with contacts do better than people with glasses, etc.

I know contacts make a big difference in peripheral vision, but this gorilla was dead center of the frame.

14, gorilla, and noted the lack of athleticism of the white shirts.

14. didn't see the gorilla the first time. I watched the video twice, to double-check my count. the second time through, I saw the gorilla, thought "that's odd" then afterward read the surrounding material and realized the point was to see if you noticed the gorilla or not.

I saw 15 passes. One pass was sort of a handoff bounce pass on the left side of the screen wherein both parties were converging and then upon completing the pass continued along each other's previous vector paths which made it easy to miss.
