CHERISH IS A WORD I USE TO DESCRIBE

Movie of the night: Cherish. It pulled me in within seconds as an original gem -- and it kept me smiling & thinking straight through. If the film industry were based in SF, we'd see more films like it: there's something NorCal in its sensibilities. The critics didn't get it, but they were mostly looking for a comedy or a mystery. They're stuck in the genre mindset. Cherish is rather about a way of being -- an outlook & attitudes that the heroine & her supporters exude. It's somehow related to yoga, I bet, in the filmmaker's mind. (There's one short splendid yoga class scene in the movie.) Looking at those rottentomatoes quotes, I'm really struck by how mean the critics are to the very characters I love. We're in different worlds! I must remind myself to ignore the critics on films like this one.

I would felt a wave of shockingly cheated by specific critics who I expected to get it, if I had written & directed this one.


'MINDFULNESS' IS NO RITUAL DE LO HABITUAL

Meditation is getting to be a solid way I break out of Obsessive Thinking.

It can be hard for me to get my operational-level mind off something: the something that it judges most important. Inner prioritizing just happens -- and it automatically guides. I need conscious discipline to trump my own operational-level prioritized attention direction. Most people can turn on a movie or even just take a walk around outside to break state with real variety & refresh. As a very strong iNtuitive, 'mere' external changes often do nothing but slightly slow me down.

When I've thought on something as much as I should for now yet am still automatically prodding around it, I look for ways to mentally walk away. This still-new-to-me meditation method may well turn out to be the best.

At least right now (here at the start), there's something more refreshing/grounding/confidence-radiating from a successful mindfulness discipline session than from other successful ways of refreshing through real variety. On retrospect, the real variety reached tends to feel moreso: closer to a refreshing holy grail of total variety. (Would you like a grail of variety? Mmmmm!) Also, there's a clear confidence issue: I feel more powerful for keeping my wildly bucking attention on ridiculously trivial objects -- and appreciating how it's I who make them interesting.


EXTREMELY SOCIAL IN SOCAL

I just spent almost one whole week with simonfunk here. He is mostly opposed to training oneself to control one's attention, and considers 'ADD' a sign of individualism/intelligence/competence. He trusts the subconscious maybe even more than I do.

He's also a wonderful houseguest, and he might be in your town this year (almost wherever you are).

We talked for a few hours like every day (like totally!), and the visit provided me with some choice mindscape variety -- much as my own travels usually do.

He & I each sometimes wear medical-looking clothes around the house. The first morning kicked off with me wandering into the living room, glancing at his outfit, and speaking: "Doctor." *nods* "Doctor." *nods*

A couple days later, he again arrayed in medical garb, while I was more colorful & even had some stripes. Morning: "You look the same, but I look...more like a clown, really!...Doctor." *nods* "Clown." *nods*
